Everyone has the ability to change.  While change can be very difficult, it is possible. With the right support and direction, you can change what isn’t working and gain the necessary tools to live balanced and fulfilling lives.

I have been in the Behavioral Health field for 20 years, as a Counselor, Clinical Supervisor, and Executive Director of Substance Use/Mental health agencies. I hold master’s degrees in both Addiction Studies and Clinical Psychology. I am licensed as an LCPC and LMHC and am also certified as a CRADC.

I am also fortunate to have lived experience of sobriety since 1995.

I opened D.Feeney Counseling & Consulting (Acceptance Counseling), a private practice in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, in 2018. I have been an adjunct professor in the Addictions Studies and Psychology Programs at Governors State University since 2005. I conduct clinical training for agencies and groups and provide Clinical Supervision. As a CEAP (Certified Employee Assistance Professional), I offer EAP services to local businesses and through company EAP benefits.

Remember that you're not alone when facing life’s challenges and feeling stuck. I’m here to offer support. If the weight of stress, navigating changes, confronting uncertainty, and managing a flood of emotions becomes overwhelming, please know that I understand.

Meeting with a therapist might feel daunting, but I have built a reputation for being approachable and easy to talk to, as confirmed by my clients. Many people, especially those who are new to therapy, find the experience to be unexpectedly enjoyable. Think of it as a small gift you’re giving yourself—a positive step toward a brighter future.

Embark on a transformative journey with me. Commitment, empathy, and a touch of humor will shape a therapeutic space tailored to your needs. Together, we can explore past and present concerns, working collaboratively to uncover the best version of ourselves. Are you ready to take that step and prioritize your well-being? Let’s talk and turn this journey into a cooperative and positive experience!

As a skilled professional passionate about understanding human behavior, I bring expertise in stress management, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and cultural and relational issues. I also have a keen interest in nutritional and integrative medicine for mental health, employing innovative approaches to treat complex trauma (C-PTSD). I utilize a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including CBT, ACT, Solution-Focused (SF), REBT, DBT, Attachment-Based Therapy, Adlerian therapy, Reality Therapy, and Mindfulness.
