Acceptance is more than the name of my practice—it’s the foundation of my approach. Healing begins by recognizing what we can and cannot change. While we cannot change other people or the past, we can change ourselves—our thoughts, our choices, and how we respond to life’s challenges. By learning to accept what is beyond our control and finding the courage to change what is within our control, we create the opportunity for lasting growth and fulfillment.
For more than 20 years, I have worked in the behavioral health field as a counselor, clinical supervisor, and executive director of substance use and mental health treatment programs. I hold master’s degrees in both Addiction Studies and Clinical Psychology and am licensed as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I am also a Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CRADC).
In addition to my professional experience, I bring the perspective of lived experience, having maintained my own recovery since 1995. Recovery has taught me that meaningful change is possible and has strengthened my ability to meet clients with empathy, hope, and understanding while recognizing that every person’s journey is unique.
In 2018, I founded D. Feeney Counseling & Consulting (Acceptance Counseling), a private practice serving individuals in the western suburbs of Chicago. In addition to in-person counseling, I provide secure telehealth services to clients throughout Illinois and Indiana, allowing me to support individuals across both states where I am licensed.
Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, substance use, relationship challenges, or major life transitions, my goal is to provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to create lasting change. Together, we can build on your strengths, develop practical tools for growth, and help you move toward the life you want to live.
